This is Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 and it’s now on sale in Europe for €40/£35. It ships in a small box with a proprietary magnetic pin charger ending on a USB-A port.
The smart band’s easily detachable body lends itself nicely to accessories – we received the dual-tone leather strap (normally £18) and the running clip (£8), which lets you attach the band to your sneakers.
Running clip and leather strap
Because of a differences in dimensions, the running clip 9 is only compatible with the Smart Band 9.
So what’s new on the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 compared to the 8? It’s ever so slightly smaller, though you’re unlikely to notice a difference. Health tracking accuracy has improved – Xiaomi claims 16% better heart rate and blood oxygen saturation tracking. There’s also a reported 7.9% improvement in sleep tracking accuracy.
The new band brings a bigger 230mAh battery over the 190mAh of its predecessor.
Sadly, there’s no GPS on the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 and you’d need to wait for the Smart Band 9 Pro to arrive with a bigger display and GPS, or go for the Smart Band 8 Pro.
